Kat Five

I write, produce, perform and remix as Kat Five and in my band Feral Five, who are known for experimenting with new tech. I’ve created music with sonified algorithms, played Music Tech Fest with a 3D printer, and worked with a bespoke AI Kat Five twin on our album ‘Truth Is The New Gold‘ which explores truth and trust. I have been interviewed several times on global BBC News about AI in Music, in the industry as a whole, and to discuss how I used it.

Feral Five signed to the Reckless Yes label for the album, which came out in 2023 on Vinyl, CD, and Digital, with artwork by design icon Malcolm Garrett. The release featured on BBC 6 Music, Radio X, and other leading stations around the world. We were honoured to see the album included in the Louder Than War Albums of the Year list in great company, get longlisted for the Music Producers Guild Awards for Self-Producing Artist, and be featured in Electricity Club’s Songs of the Year.

Electronic music legend Martyn Ware (Heaven 17, Human League, Tina Turner) also remixed the album title track ‘Truth Is The New Gold‘, ramping up the funk with ear-worm synths and cash register percussion.

Martyn previously invited us to create new music for his Picasso Portraits event at the National Portrait Gallery in London. We’ve also played film director Danny Boyle’s Shuffle Festival, supported Black Grape, and played Cro Cro Land and Nasty Women festivals.

We created an interactive live show with live algorithmic visuals in collaboration with artist/technologist Jonathan Hogg, where the audience can share their thoughts on truth to be included in the visuals and the music. We performed it at Electromagnetic Field Festival in 2024, and other venues.

As Kat Five I play live shows, release self-produced music, and collaborate with artists such as Misled Convoy (Pitch Black). I’ve jammed on the IRCAM stage in Paris at Music Tech Fest, performed at Hackney Art Week, Cro Cro Land and other festivals. I’ve remixed emerging classical composer Monefa Walker, played on a Horace Andy remix track, and contributed to sound art broadcasts and installations. My latest single is Emergency Start, which has been dubbed a rave punk anthem, with a dazzling video.

I am also part of the international women in music tech community, and a member of the Music Producers Guild, The Ivors Academy Future Sound Experience Council, The Brit Awards Voting Academy (2023-2026) and the women and non-binary music producers group 2% Rising.
